On April 7th, the federal government presented Budget 2022. In London, as with so many other communities, housing remains the leading concern. On April 8th, in the House of Commons, I highlighted a few of the measures that help to address the challenge.
In #Budget2022, we reemphasized our commitment to confronting homelessness by building housing. On April 13th, Minister Omar Alghabra, MP Arielle Kayabaga and city councillors Josh Morgan, Mariam Hamou and John Andrew Fyfe-Millar to speak about the Rapid Housing Initiative - renewed in the budget - and the 40+ RHI units being built on Thompson Rd through a federal and municipal investment. This is done in partnership with the City of London and requires that construction be competed within one year.
Over the weekend, I was also able to share Budget 2022 information at the doors as well. Many young people raised housing affordability. Measures like the Tax-Free First Home Savings Account and the Housing Accelerator Fund will really help. For more: https://pm.gc.ca/.../helping-young-people-get-housing-market
To wrap up Budget 2022, we were at City Hall today with Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and MP Arielle Kayabaga. We spoke with Mayor Holder about confronting homelessness through the Rapid Housing Initiative and getting more homes built by working with municipalities through the Housing Accelerator Fund.
